BMW G-Series cars already offer impressive driving modes, but some owners may find additional options hidden inside the vehicle software. With BimmerCode Expert Mode, selected BMW G-models can display Comfort Plus and Sport Expert driving programs.

These modes are commonly associated with Alpina-equipped BMW models, although availability and function can vary depending on the car’s equipment, software version, suspension, and control units. The coding changes discussed here are software settings only—they do not add hardware that the vehicle does not have.


What Are Comfort Plus and Sport Expert?

Comfort Plus is designed for a smoother, more relaxed driving experience. On vehicles with compatible adaptive suspension, it may provide a softer setup than standard Comfort mode. Steering and drivetrain behavior can also be adjusted to create a calmer daily-driving feel.


Sport Expert gives drivers a more focused setup. Depending on the vehicle, it may sharpen steering response, adjust drivetrain behavior, and provide a more direct Sport-style driving profile.


The result is not the same as installing an Alpina software package. Coding simply enables available menu options and related vehicle parameters. BimmerCode users and BMW coding guides commonly reference these FES settings for G-Series vehicles.


What You Need Before Coding

Before starting, prepare the following:

  • A compatible BimmerCode adapter
  • The BimmerCode app
  • A fully charged vehicle battery
  • A supported BMW G-Series model
  • A stable phone connection
  • A backup of the original coding values

Keep the ignition switched on during the coding process, but do not start the engine unless BimmerCode instructs you to do so. Turn off unnecessary electrical equipment, including the air conditioning, headlights, and audio system.


A battery charger is a smart extra precaution, especially if the vehicle is older or you plan to code several control units.


Comfort Plus Coding Locations

Open the relevant control units in BimmerCode Expert Mode and locate the following parameters.


Head Unit

Change these options from nicht aktiv to aktiv:

After coding, allow the car to shut down completely. Lock the vehicle and wait several minutes before checking the iDrive menu.


Sport Expert Coding Locations

For Sport Expert, use the following settings.

Once the coding is complete, restart the vehicle and check the driving-mode menu. On many compatible BMWs, pressing the Comfort or Sport button again may cycle through the additional mode, although the exact behavior depends on the model and software version.


Important Compatibility Notes

Not every BMW G-model will respond in the same way. The available result depends on:

  • Model and production year
  • iDrive version
  • Adaptive suspension equipment
  • Steering hardware
  • Engine and transmission configuration
  • BMW software version
  • Regional vehicle specifications

If a parameter does not appear, do not replace it with a similar-looking setting. The control unit may use different names or values on another software version.


Also, Comfort Plus may feel almost identical to standard Comfort on a vehicle without adaptive dampers. The menu can appear, but the physical suspension hardware still determines how much the driving experience changes.


Sport Expert should also be used responsibly. It may make the car feel more responsive, but it does not improve tires, brakes, suspension components, or driver skill. Always use the mode within legal speed limits and suitable road conditions.


Will Coding Affect the Warranty?

Coding may be reversible, but that does not automatically mean it is approved by BMW or covered under every warranty policy. Before changing vehicle software, save the original values and understand your local dealer and warranty rules.

Software updates can also overwrite custom coding. BMW owners have reported that some coding changes disappear after vehicle updates, requiring the settings to be applied again.
