Transform your instrument cluster into a modern 3D driver-assist display—safely and easily.
A Quick Note Before We Begin
Test coding at your own risk! If you feel unsure at any step, pause and consult an expert. There is no liability for damages of any kind resulting from vehicle coding.
If you own a modern BMW G-Series model—like the G20 3 Series, G30 5 Series, or G05 X5—you might be sitting on high-tech features your car hardware already supports, but hasn’t had enabled from the factory.
One of the coolest features automotive enthusiasts love unlocking is the Assisted Driving View (CB_FZG_UMGEBUNG_FAS) and the Lane Change Assistant. This feature renders surrounding cars, trucks, and motorcycles in real-time on your digital cockpit display ([DKOMBI4]), giving you that sleek Tesla-style autopilot environment right in your gauge cluster.
In this guide, we break down the exact parameters you need to edit to get this feature running smooth and clear on your drive.
What You Need Before Starting
To complete this tweak, you will need:
- An OBD2 adapter (like a UniCarScan, OBDLink CX, or ENET cable).
- Diagnostic software like E-Sys or BimmerCode (in Expert Mode).
- A stable battery stabilizer or clean power supply connected to your car.
The BMW G-Series Coding Steps
Work through the following modules in your diagnostic software. Make sure to back up your factory CAFD files prior to making changes!
1. Cluster Module ([DKOMBI4])
Open your instrument cluster ECU and set the following parameters from inactive to active:
- CB_FZG_UMGEBUNG_FAS $\rightarrow$ active
- CB_PRESELECT_NAVI_ANISCHET_FZG_UMGEBUNG $\rightarrow$ active
- PIA_FZG_UMGEBUNG_FAS $\rightarrow$ active
- SICHT_ABSICHT_ENABLE $\rightarrow$ active
2. Body Domain Controller ([BDC_BODY])
Locate CAFD_00007083_xxx_xxx_xxx and activate the lane change helper:
- Lane Change Assistant $\rightarrow$ active
3. Head Unit Module ([HU_MGU])
Locate CAFD_00003E52_xxx_xxx_xxx to update the iDrive menu:
- Lane Change Assistant $\rightarrow$ gen_1
4. Safety and Driver Assistance ([SAS2])
Locate CAFD_00003E52_xxx_xxx_xxx to preserve the system’s active status:
- C_SWA_PRESERVED $\rightarrow$ NR001_preserved
Final iDrive Activation
Once you finish coding and restart your iDrive screen, jump into your vehicle’s central display menu:
- Go to CAR $\rightarrow$ SETTINGS.
- Select DRIVING ASSISTANCES.
- Under AUTO, you can now toggle on the newly activated options for surrounding environment rendering and automated lane changing!
