BMW G2x owners often ask how to activate an M-style or Alpina-style display on the digital instrument cluster. The change can give the cockpit a more focused appearance, with different logos, layouts, RPM scales and startup animations.
These settings are usually found in the DKOMBI4 instrument cluster module and the HU_MGU head-unit module. The exact menu names may vary depending on the vehicle, coding software and i-Level software version.
DKOMBI4 M-Display Settings
For an M-style instrument cluster, the commonly used values include:
- GLOBAL_LAYOUT_VARIANT: m_gmbh
- LOGO_FONT: m_logo
- DZM_VARIANT: benziner_b58
- HMI_KVA_SCALE: 30l/100km
- DIGIT_SPEED_UPDATERATE: value_02
- HMI_WELCOME_GOODBYE_LAYOUT: m_sport_compet_paket
- ALPINA_ENABLE: not_active
These settings can change the cluster layout, logo style, RPM scale and fuel-consumption display. On some vehicles, the B58 engine setting may still work correctly even when the car has a different engine. Always check the result carefully after coding.
DKOMBI4 Alpina-Display Settings
For an Alpina-style display, the usual values are:
- ALPINA_ENABLE: active
- GLOBAL_LAYOUT_VARIANT: alpina
- LOGO_FONT: alpina
- SPEED_NUMBER_Y: alpina
- SPEED_EFF_X: alpina
- DZM_VARIANT: benziner_b58
- HMI_KVA_SCALE: 30l/100km
- DIGIT_SPEED_UPDATERATE: value_02
- HMI_WELCOME_GOODBYE_LAYOUT: m_sport_compet_paket
The Alpina layout normally provides a distinctive blue-style presentation and a different speedometer arrangement. The final appearance can depend on the installed cluster hardware and software level.
Startup Logo and Animation Coding
The startup display can also be adjusted through the HU_MGU module.
M-Style iDrive Startup
Use these values:
- STARTUP_EMBLEM: bmw_m
- STARTUP_TYPE: animation
- INSTANT_ON_MAX_LIFECYCLES: values
Alpina-Style iDrive Startup
Use these values:
- STARTUP_EMBLEM: alpina
- STARTUP_TYPE: animation
- INSTANT_ON_MAX_LIFECLES: values
The startup delay settings may also affect how quickly the logo appears when the vehicle is switched on. Some software versions use different active values, so the coding result may not be identical on every BMW G2x.
Important Coding Advice
Save the original coding data before making any changes. Coding mistakes can affect the instrument
