Audi C110701 and C110702 Fault Codes: Why ACC Stops Working

Adaptive Cruise Control is one of the most useful driver-assistance features in a modern Audi. It helps maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and makes long-distance driving more comfortable.

However, when the system detects a problem with the front camera or its video signal, ACC may stop working. One fault that can cause this problem is Audi C110701, often accompanied by C110702 in the image processing control unit.

These codes can look complicated at first, but the cause is often linked to the camera control unit J852.

What Does Audi C110701 Mean?

Audi fault code C110701 generally indicates an error with the video signal used by the image processing system.

In simple terms, the vehicle is not receiving a reliable image from the camera system. Because ACC depends on accurate information from the camera, the vehicle may disable the function as a safety precaution.

The fault may appear with a warning such as:

  • ACC unavailable
  • Adaptive Cruise Control malfunction
  • Front camera restricted
  • Driver assistance systems limited
  • Camera system fault

The exact message can vary depending on the Audi model, software version and vehicle equipment.

What Does C110702 Mean?

The related fault code C110702 refers to a video line signal error in the image processing control unit. It may be recorded as an active or static fault.

This usually means the control unit has detected an interruption, abnormal signal or communication problem between the camera system and the image processing module.

When the code remains active, clearing the fault with a diagnostic scanner normally will not solve the issue. The underlying camera control unit or video signal problem must be repaired first.

The Main Cause: Damaged Camera Control Unit J852

In this case, the problem was caused by a failure inside the camera control unit J852.

The J852 unit processes information from the vehicle’s camera system and communicates with other driver-assistance modules. If the internal electronics become damaged, the video signal can become unstable or disappear completely.

Common reasons for J852 failure may include:

  • Internal electronic component failure
  • Voltage spikes or unstable power supply
  • Water or moisture damage
  • Heat-related damage
  • Corrosion around connectors
  • Failed communication or video circuit
  • Previous electrical repair or wiring damage

Why Does ACC Become Unavailable?

Adaptive Cruise Control relies on several sensors and control modules. Depending on the Audi model, the system may use:

A technician should inspect the relevant image processing and driver-assistance modules for stored faults, including:

That may not always be necessary.

If the camera control unit has an internal electronic fault, a specialist ECU repair can be a more practical solution than replacing the entire system. Repairing the original unit may offer several advantages:

  • Lower cost than a new dealer replacement
  • Original vehicle configuration is retained
  • No unnecessary replacement of working parts
  • Less programming and adaptation work
  • Faster turnaround in many cases
  • The original hardware remains with the vehicle

Of course, repair is only suitable when the unit is technically repairable. Severe physical damage, water contamination or missing components may make replacement the better option.

J852 Camera Control Unit Repair

A professional repair usually involves removing the faulty control unit and inspecting it on an electronics workbench.

The repair technician may check:

  • Circuit board condition
  • Power supply circuits
  • Video signal paths
  • Communication circuits
  • Failed components
  • Corrosion and heat damage
  • Connector and solder joint condition

Damaged components can then be replaced, and the module can be tested before it is returned to the vehicle.

The C110701 and C110702 fault codes were no longer present in the image processing control unit. Once the system received a correct video signal, the ACC function returned to normal operation.

Does the Camera Need Calibration After Repair?

Calibration requirements depend on the Audi model, camera position and the repair performed.

Calibration may be required after:

  • Windscreen replacement

  • Wheel alignment problems
  • Camera bracket movement

Can You Drive With C110701 Active?

The vehicle may still be drivable, but the affected driver-assistance functions should be treated as unavailable.

When ACC is disabled, the driver must control:

  • Following distance

  • Traffic awareness
  • Lane and road observation

Do not rely on the camera-based assistance system until the fault has been properly diagnosed and repaired.

If other warnings appear, especially braking, steering or multiple sensor warnings, the car should be inspected as soon as possible.

Replacing parts without testing can quickly become expensive. A radar sensor, camera, wiring harness and control unit can all be costly, yet the actual fault may be a small internal failure inside J852.

The best approach is:

  5. Test the camera control unit.
  6. Repair or replace the confirmed faulty component.
  7. Clear the fault memory.
  8. Complete calibration and road testing where required.

This process helps avoid unnecessary parts replacement and gives the repair a much better chance of success.
